About the museum
Historian and politician Johan Richard Danielson-Kalmari (1853–1933) bought the property Suviniemi in Vääksy, Asikkala, in 1892. The family spent all their summers at the villa until 1932, and Danielson-Kalmari wrote many of his studies there. He was chairman of the Finnish Party, represented the Estates Diet nine times and served as a member of parliament from 1907 to 1917.
The neo-Renaissance-style villa was restored for year-round use in 1986. The building is owned by the municipality of Asikkala. In winter the villa houses the Asikkala regional music school (Asikkalan seudun musiikkiopisto), and in summer art exhibitions are held there. The garden around the villa, with its statues, is a sight in its own right.
