About the museum
The museum opened to the public in 1985 and is owned by the municipality of Asikkala. It comprises the Vääksyn vesimylly- ja sähkövoimalaitosmuseo (water mill and hydroelectric power station museum) and the water wheel. The mill's last master, Taisto Suontausta, died in 2009, after which the workroom on the lower floor of the mill was left untouched.
A museum researcher catalogued the objects from 2021 onwards over three summer seasons with the support of the Finnish Heritage Agency, and about 300 objects were recorded in a database maintained by the Lahti museums. The renewed exhibition opened in summer 2024: the upper floor presents grain processing and the lower floor electricity production. For children there is a play corner and old-fashioned clothes.
