About the museum
The Degerby Igor Museum tells of the times before, during and after the Porkala period of 1944–1956, when Degerby was part of the Soviet leased area. Large parts of Ingå, Kirkkonummi and Sjundeå were subject to a Soviet naval base, and the residents were evacuated in the autumn of 1944.
The village council of Degerby opened the museum in the summer of 1997. Today the museum consists of the red museum building, which was renovated in 2002 and has been extended since, and the yellow house Rosenberg. Rosenberg served as Degerby’s municipal hall until the evacuation in 1944 and now houses part of the exhibitions, a museum shop, an information point and a digital archive. The village council bought the property from Ingå municipality in January 2026.
The exhibitions cover, among other things, the evacuation, the return to Porkala in 1956, the Lottas (Lottorna) in Degerby and the Porkala tunnel, which was not a tunnel at all. The museum publishes stories and guidebooks about the Porkala area, and older exhibitions and parts of the collections can be seen in a digital picture archive.
