About the museum
The Enonkoski Local Heritage Museum is located in the village centre of Enonkoski, in an old grain warehouse, a former loan granary. The building was completed in 1880 and moved to its present site in 1917. The museum was founded in 1973 and is owned and run by Enonkoski-seura.
The exhibition focuses on the livelihoods of the people of Enonkoski. On display are many objects related to farming, as well as products and work tools of the Kangassaari glassworks, which operated from 1857 to 1903. The bottles made at Kangassaari are among the oldest surviving glass objects made in Finland. The works were founded by Mihail Tichanoff, director of a trading house in Vyborg, and its production was sold to Russia.
The museum also houses the model “Apajavesillä”, built by boys from the pupils’ club of Enonkoski civic school, which depicts a Savo-Karelian fishing shore and won first prize in Oulu in 1964. Nearby are the Enonkoski church from 1886 and the museosilta bridge from the early 20th century.
