About the museum

The Hämeenkyrö Local Heritage Museum operates in a crown granary built in 1820 on Härkikuja. In the 19th century the granary was a storehouse and a place for keeping tax grain. In 1959 the first exhibition of old objects belonging to residents of Hämeenkyrö was assembled in the granary for the duration of the Hämeenkyrö agricultural exhibition. The leasing rights to the granary passed to the municipality from the Museum and Local Heritage Association in 1964.

The museum has two floors. The permanent exhibition begins on the first floor and continues on the second, presenting the local history of Hämeenkyrö. The first floor houses Galleria Vilja, which has changing exhibitions. There is no lift to the second floor.
