About the museum
The Ikaalinen local heritage museum is run by Ikaalinen-Seura, which was founded in the 1930s. The museum operates beside the church on Kirkkomäki, in a former granary from the 1830s. The municipality handed the building over to the association’s use in 1966, and the museum’s opening was celebrated in August 1967.
The collection has about 3,400 catalogued objects, most of which are donations from the Ikaalinen parish area. The objects are grouped by theme in the museum’s rooms. The name of the downstairs hall refers to the host of Varpee inn (Varpeen kievari).
Upstairs is the Vintiöitten vintti, opened in summer 2015 with a grant from the Finnish Heritage Agency (Museovirasto), where children can play and explore objects. Adults have a corner of their own with local history books. The museum is run by the association’s volunteers.
