About the museum
The decision to establish the Hinnerjoen kotiseutumuseo was taken on 12 February 1955. The museum began its activities in the old grain storehouse next to the church, and the first exhibition opened on 26 June 1960. The municipality joined Eura in 1970. Today the museums are run by the Hinnerjoen Kotiseutuyhdistys ry (Hinnerjoki Local Heritage Society), and the museum area’s property is mainly owned by the municipality of Eura.
The museum area lies on both sides of Luotteenperäntie. The Valo Museum grew up around a crofter’s cottage built at the end of the 19th century and is a small-object museum with a main room (tupa), a back room (peräkamari), a smoke sauna and a chamber (kammio). The agricultural museum has equipment from the horse era up to the first combine harvesters. The local heritage museum presents the village’s craftspeople, a shop, a small schoolroom and a collection of 1,500 coffee cups.
In the yard are a copper smithy, one of the most complete in the province, and a blacksmith’s workshop. The Raula storehouse (aitta) houses the history of the sawmill and its tools, and the old cowshed at Valo houses Vuori’s bicycle shop. The collection comprises around 11,000 objects. Hinnerjoki Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in July.
