About the museum

The Hollola Local Heritage Museum is located in the Hollola church village, near the medieval church, in a cultural landscape of national value. The museum is run by the Hollolan Kotiseutuyhdistys ry (Hollola Local Heritage Association). It comprises an object museum on Parinpellontie and a house museum area on Rälssintie.

The object museum operates in a granary completed in 1855, which the association bought in 1952 and renovated for museum use. The museum was inaugurated on 3 July 1960. The largest room is dedicated to the horse tradition and travelling of Hollola, and the permanent exhibition presents results of archaeological excavations in the area. In addition, the museum has a changing exhibition every summer.

The Hentilä house museum area is a representative example of the old building stock of a rural parish in Häme. The area has log buildings from between the late 18th and the early 20th century: the main buildings of Hentilä, Ylä-Kölli and Halkaro, granaries, a smithy, a threshing barn, a hop garden, a malt sauna, an ometta (traditional outbuilding), a stable and a carriage shed. The area holds work demonstrations and events, such as a sahti championship before Midsummer and a heritage day in August.
