About the museum
The Jäppilä Local Heritage Museum is located in the church village of Jäppilä, in an ochre-yellow log building built in 1882 as the parish’s grain storehouse. The museum was founded in 1961 and is owned and run by the City of Pieksämäki.
The two-storey exhibition tells of the life of the people of Jäppilä, with a special emphasis on agriculture. Objects connected with fishing, transport, housekeeping and schooling are also on display.
The museum belongs to the Jäppilä village centre, which also includes the church completed in 1872, the churchyard and cemetery surrounded by a stone wall, the school and the municipal hall. The field in front of the church has long been a marketplace.
