About the museum
Keitele-museo is a working special-interest museum at Wanhalla station in Suolahti that preserves the tradition of railway operations. The station area is where a waterway, a main road and a railway meet. The station building in Suolahti was completed when rail traffic began in 1898 and was designed by architect Bruno Granholm.
The museum collects and restores old railway rolling stock with the help of volunteers and keeps it in working order. The yard has about three kilometres of track, which connects to the national rail network, so the museum's vehicles can also be used for charter trips. The operating fleet includes the Tk3 1132 steam locomotive and Dm7 railcars, known as lättähatut (“flat hats”). Some of the collection is of historical significance and can be seen only in Suolahti.
The museum's most visible activity is its museum train trips on a lättähatut. In the yard you can also try riding a rail draisine (resiini).
