About the museum
Karjalan kotiseutumuseo is located in the village of Karjala in Mynämäki, next to Karjala Church. The museum was founded in 1976, and it tells of the life and livelihoods of the residents of the former municipality of Karjala (Turku Province).
The museum operates in a grain storehouse built in 1896. The collections began when local farm housewives gathered a large number of objects from the villages. The objects represent typical peasant objects from Karjala, and on display are, among other things, looms, wooden vessels, tools and a kapio chest (kapioarkku) dating from 1836.
The museum’s special feature is a section presenting the Stone Age settlement site of Aisti.
