About the museum
Karralan talo is already mentioned in 1543, when a prosperous farm was cultivated by three households. In the 18th century the Crown’s cavalry farm (ratsutila) was divided into six Karralas, whose farm economy was based on a joint-farm system. After the Great Partition (isojako) in 1848, the land was divided and each holding got its own master.
The last master of Karralan, the man known as the patriarch of Kolisevo, ruled the farm until 1977. The estate’s heirs donated the main building to the Iitti municipality, and the old house, built at the end of the 18th century, was given the name Karralan kotiseututalo.
Iitin Kotiseutuyhdistys ry (Iitti Local Heritage Association) has devoted a large part of its activities to restoring the house and its yard, so that a piece of old Iitti peasant tradition survives for future generations. The yard also includes a storehouse.
