About the museum
The Jyllinkoski electricity museum is one of Finland’s first rural electricity works. The museum operates in the original power station building at Jyllinkoski, which was an important power plant from 1913 to 1970. The exhibition tells of the history and technical development of electricity production in the area in different eras; on display are old electricity-production equipment, photographs and documents.
The area also houses the Information Technology Museum (Informaatiotekniikan museo). Its collections have accumulated since the turn of the 20th century and include radio technology, video equipment, cameras, office machines, military radios and other information technology objects. The collection of over 500 radios covers the history of radio from small devices to digital radio and television, as well as military, telephone and computer technology.
The Information Technology Museum association has renovated the old switching station in the area into modern exhibition and meeting spaces.
