About the museum

Puistola is an example of reconstruction-period building in Eastern Lapland. Väinö Halonen, municipal manager and farmer, had the house, cowshed and sauna built for his family in 1947, after returning from evacuation. The Savukoski municipality restored the buildings, and the house was opened as a house museum in 1998. For the restoration work the municipality received the Hurrikas Award from the Lapland Building Heritage Association.

The ground floor of the main building is furnished in the style of the 1950s, following the original furnishings as far as possible. Upstairs there is a small local heritage museum, and in one room the Rösölänperä elementary school is on display. The cowshed building also has exhibitions and museum objects. A small museum shop sells books, postcards and other small souvenirs, for cash.

Day events can be held in the house. It is equipped with electricity, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, a coffee maker, a kettle and a stove.
