About the museum
C. G. E. Mannerheim used the saloon carriage in 1939–1946. He made more than a hundred journeys with it, covering more than 78,000 kilometres in total. The carriage was usually attached to the train of the Defence Forces headquarters, but it also often travelled with ordinary civilian trains.
The wooden saloon carriage comprises a saloon section, five sleeping compartments, a kitchen and a bathroom. The carriage is looked after by the Mikkeli city museums. It can also be explored online with a virtual tour (salonkivaunu.mikkeli.fi).
