About the museum
Museo Salinmäki is a peasant and open-air museum in the village of Myttäälä, run by Pälkäne-Seura ry (Pälkäne Society). The Salinmäki buildings have been in museum use since 1965, and the area was opened to the public in 1977.
The museum’s main building is a 19th-century paritupa (double-room house), Alkman’s farmhouse, which presents the peasant life of Pälkäne and the everyday life and celebrations of the Alkman family in the early 20th century. The family was the last private owner of the farm. The courtyard also has a long red-ochre barn (punamullattu lato), a shingle-roofed grain storehouse (pärekattoinen viljamakasiini) and a barn moved from the Kaitamo farm of Soini manor.
