About the museum
Nybonds i Krogstad is one of the few surviving farms from the late 18th century on Åland. The farm has never had running water or electricity, and the main building remains in the condition it had when the last resident, Wilhelm Andersson, lived there in the 1980s.
Today the farm is run by a local heritage association that wants to preserve the old house and recreate the farmyard environment. The farm museum shows original objects from a bygone era, including baking peels, a spinning wheel, flatirons and a hearth. The unusually large bread oven in the main building is a reminder that bread was baked on the farm for boatbuilders and as provisions for boats.
The farm has a café and a flea market, and various events such as a Christmas market are held during the year. Tailored historical theme days for school classes can be booked.
