About the museum
Mattsmårs is an unusual museum farm on Hummersö in Föglö, where the whole of the 20th century has left its mark. Here the rhythm of a self-sufficient household meets modern times. The farm has been preserved as it looked when the last person moved out, and the interior and appearance are intact, so that visitors take a journey through time among old objects.
The farm has been a museum since 2009 and is owned by the Garantiföreningen för Mattsmårs r.f. (Mattsmårs guarantee association), which renovates and looks after it but keeps everything in the same old style. In summer a summer exhibition is shown, and the programme also includes events such as Easter fun, celebrations of Self-Government Day and Christmas fun. The farm is occasionally visited by theatre performances.
