About the museum
Skeppargården Pellas in Lemland is a ship-owner’s farm from the age of peasant seafaring. The main building was built in 1884 by the shipowner Erik Petter Eriksson. On Christmas Eve 2005 a fire caused extensive damage, and the house reopened in summer 2008. The rooms with hand-painted wallpapers have been recreated.
The farm is presented as a home where several generations have lived and left their traces, and the common thread is seafaring: from the small wooden sailing vessels of peasant seafaring in the 19th century to the large sailing ships of the 20th century. The museum is run as a living museum by the association Skeppargården Pellas r.f.
In the attic there is a gallery and an exhibition about the sailing ship Herzogin Cecilie, with photographs by Stig Bergwall and Pamela Eriksson. The outbuildings display agricultural implements and carpentry tools, and nearby there is a working windmill. There is also a dairy exhibition. In the main building there is a coffee room (kaffestuga) serving home-baked goods, open sandwiches and lunch soup.
