About the museum
The Paimio Electricity Museum (Paimion Sähkömuseo) opened on 14 June 1995 in a three-storey granite building in central Paimio. The museum is run by the Paimion Sähkömuseosäätiö (Paimio Electricity Museum Foundation), which was established in 1992 by Lounais-Suomen Sähkö Oy, Sähkölähteenmäki Oy, the City of Paimio and Paimio-Seura. The museum celebrated its 30th anniversary in June 2025.
The middle-floor permanent exhibition was renewed in 2022. It tells the history of electricity production and distribution by means of a scale model, VR environments and audio recordings of former electrical-trade workers. With VR glasses, visitors can try, among other things, replacing insulators on an electricity pole and a helicopter flight. The upper-floor exhibition tells the history of the Sähkölähteenmäki company from 1923.
On the ground floor are the ticket sales, the museum shop and the Holvikahvila space, which is rented for events. There is also an exhibit that generates electricity by pedalling, electric car charging points and an exhibition presenting the Juntola hydroelectric power plant. In summer the Paimio tourist information is in the same building.
