About the museum
The RUK Museum tells of reserve officer training in Finland over more than a hundred years. The history of the Reserve Officer School and its student body begins in 1920, when reserve officer training for independent Finland started in Hamina. Founded in 1975, the museum preserves the traditions of RUK and of its student body, presents their activities, and acts as a link between the reserve officer courses. The museum celebrated its 50th anniversary in June 2025.
The museum’s permanent exhibition tells of RUK’s activities before the wars, during the wars and the interim peace, and right up to the present day. The exhibitions display more than 900 objects, documents or pictures, from insignia to field guns, and all the objects have been used for training at RUK. The Pahkajärvi Hall houses heavy weapons and other equipment that requires space. In addition, hundreds of photographs of training events are on display.
The museum is located in Hamina along Kadettikoulunkatu. At the same intersection is the Perinnekeskus Wanha Veteraani (Wanha Veteraani Heritage Centre), which presents Finnish peacekeeping and crisis management operations from 1956 to the present day.
