Sisar Aino -museo ja Rinnekodin museo

In the Rinnekoti area of Espoo, two museums tell of the history of care for people with intellectual disabilities and of the life of Sister Aino Miettinen, the director of the home.

About the museum

Rinnekoti began in 1927, when the Helsinki Deaconess Institute (Helsingin Diakonissalaitos) took in two boys with severe intellectual disabilities on the suggestion of Sister Aino. At the end of 1939 Rinnekoti moved from its cramped premises to the grounds of Skogby manor in Espoo. The Rinnekoti foundation separated from the Deaconess Institute in 1957.

Sister Aino, Aino Miettinen (1885–1980), was director of Rinnekoti from 1938 to 1959. In retirement she lived in the Rinnekoti area until her death. The wooden building beside Muistola is her former home, which has been converted into a museum and displays her work uniforms and personal belongings.

The exhibition in the Muistola building tells of the history of Rinnekoti and of the lives of carers and of those cared for. On display are, among other things, inventive standing aids and dressing-training dolls used in the care and rehabilitation of children, as well as small room sets with furniture, and health care and teaching objects.
