About the museum
The Suomen luontokeskus Haltia (Finnish Nature Centre Haltia) opened in May 2013 in Nuuksio, Espoo, next to the Solvalla sports institute. Planning for the centre began in 2002, and in 2008 the property company Nuuksiokeskus Oy was founded for the building; it is owned by Metsähallitus (Parks & Wildlife Finland), the City of Espoo and Solvalla Nedre Ab. The building was designed by architect Rainer Mahlamäki, and its architecture is inspired by Kalevala culture.
In addition to Metsähallitus and Solvalla Nedre Ab, six neighbouring municipalities fund the centre's activities: Espoo, Helsinki, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Vantaa and Vihti. The core of Haltia's main exhibition is Finland's national parks, with a particular focus on Nuuksio and nature close to the capital region.
From autumn 2026 the main exhibition is being renewed. The other nature exhibitions remain open during the renovation, and the main exhibition reopens on 28 January 2027.
