About the museum
The Sonkajärvi local heritage house was built in 1850 as a residential building and was originally a smoke cabin (savupirtti). In 1919 the building was fitted with a chimney. The house was moved from Sonkakoski, and it is also known by the name Pohjin talo.
The house’s collection includes tools used for processing flax, flat irons heated on a stove, a cobbler’s tools, a loom, birch bark objects, an anchor used in log driving, skis and skates, wartime food ration cards and an old telephone. The local heritage house stands on the same plot as the Kansainvälinen Pullomuseo (International Bottle Museum).
