About the museum
There has been a croft on the Telkkämäki site since the early 1700s. The Mustola family cultivated the farm until the 1960s, and the last slash-and-burn fires were lit in the 1940s.
Metsähallitus established a nature reserve in the area in 1989 and began traditional slash-and-burn in 1993. Turnips and rye are grown in the area, among other things.
The farmyard has a main building from the late 19th century, a cowshed, a threshing barn, granaries and a smoke sauna, as well as pastures. Most of the buildings are kept locked, but in the small room of the cowshed there is a small photo exhibition on modern slash-and-burn. The signs of the Rietulan kierto (Rietula Circuit) nature trail help visitors interpret the traces of slash-and-burn in the area's nature and landscape.
