About the museum
The Vesanto crofters’ museum presents the heritage of crofters from the 1860s onwards. The exhibitions highlight the famine years of 1866–1868, when, according to local accounts, Vesanto got through relatively well thanks to community support and to hunting, fishing and berry picking. The museum also tells of the mid-19th-century hardships after the Crimean War and the Åland War.
The museum grounds have ten buildings displaying household objects from different periods, as well as a Horse-Age Agricultural Museum (hevosajan maatalousmuseo). A guide is present during opening hours. The museum is run by the Vesanto local heritage association (Vesannon kotiseutuyhdistys).
