About the museum
The Karttula local heritage museum operates in the church village of Karttula, opposite the church and next to the cemetery and the bell tower. The museum building is the former grain storehouse of the Karttula loan granary, where a date inscription from 1860 was found. The Manttaalikunta (rural district) donated the storehouse to the municipality of Karttula in 1977.
The museum’s first objects came from the collection of the Sourun museo, founded in Karttula in 1945. All objects in the museum come from the municipal area and were received as donations.
On the ground floor of the storehouse, besides the hall, there are four rooms displaying household goods, tools and textiles. Upstairs there are agricultural tools, fishing equipment, shoemaking supplies and tools for processing flax.
