About the museum
Since 1958, twelve log buildings from the 1700s and 1800s have been assembled on the grounds of the Konnevesi local heritage museum. They are grouped in the form of a scattered East Finnish farmyard and represent Savo building traditions. The first building moved to the site was the Tuomisto smoke cottage (savutupa) from Hytölä.
Around the smoke cottage are two grain storehouses, a särvinaitta (storehouse), a clothes storehouse, a windmill, an equipment shed, a cooking hut, a smoke sauna, a barn, a cowshed, a drying barn (riihi) and a smithy. The windmill was originally built in 1867, moved to the museum in 1958 and renovated in 2020. The exhibition hall was completed in the mid-1980s, and its heated archive and exhibition space was extended in 2004–2005.
The exhibition hall has exhibitions on the life and dwellings of the people of Konnevesi, on the folk healer Pekan Aapi, and on the workshops of a boatbuilder and a pieksu maker. In summer, the sheep of the cattle farm (karjakartano) attract families, and the Virtuaaliseikkailija's Lehmipolku (Cow Path) has five augmented-reality panels. The museum grounds and buildings are owned by the municipality of Konnevesi, and the activities are run by the Konnevesi Local Heritage Association together with the municipality.
