About the museum
The Yllästunturi Kellokas nature centre is run by the Nature Services of Metsähallitus (Parks & Wildlife Finland) in Äkäslompolo, in the municipality of Kolari. It serves as a service point for Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park: staff advise on hiking routes and fishing permits, and the starting points of ski and hiking trails are close to the yard. Views of the fell landscape open from the windows and the yard.
The centre has a free exhibition, Meän elämää (Our Life), which presents local nature and culture. The building also houses the Savottamuseo (logging camp museum) and changing art exhibitions; Galleria Kellokas is run by the Lapin Taiteilijaseura (Lapland Artists’ Association). The lobby has a small shop selling maps and local products, and evening events on film and nature are held in the premises all year round.
In 2024 the nature centre had about 115,800 visits.
