About the museum
The Yrjö A. Jäntin taidekokoelma is an art collection donated by Yrjö A. Jäntti (1905–1985), long-time managing director of the publishing company WSOY. Jäntti was born in Porvoo and built his career at WSOY from 1926 onwards; he served as managing director from 1952 to 1968. He made his first art purchases in the late 1920s, but acquired most of the collection only after his retirement, from 1969 onwards. In 1980 he founded an art foundation so that the collection could be seen by a wide public.
Jäntti donated the collection to his home town of Porvoo in 1984, and it was opened to the public the same year in the WSOY property on Papinkatu. From 2012 onwards part of the collection has been displayed at Porvoo Art Hall in the Taidetehdas. The collection is owned by the City of Porvoo.
The collection includes more than a thousand works: paintings, graphic art, drawings, sculptures and medals. It represents Finnish art from the late 19th century to the 1980s. Among the paintings on display are works by A. W. Finch and Juhani Linnovaara; sculpture is represented by, for example, Raimo Utriainen, Tapio Junno and Kaija-Riitta Iivonen. The collection of miniature sculptures is exceptionally extensive. The renewed collection exhibition is built around the depiction of nature and animals.
