Temporarily closed (expected until 2027). The museum has been closed to the public since 3 November 2025 for an 18-month renovation programme; the works are scheduled for 2025 to 2027. Activities outside the museum are offered during the closure.

About the museum

Founded in 1961 by an association, the Musée de la Pêche de Concarneau is the first museum in Europe devoted to fishing. It is housed in the former arsenal on rue Vauban, in the Ville Close. The Friends of the Museum association was set up the same year. The museum received the “Musée de France” label in 2003, and its management passed to Concarneau Cornouaille Agglomération in 2012.

The buildings, including a south wing with a chapel listed as a historic monument and a 19th-century north wing, no longer meet today's environmental requirements. The agglomeration therefore launched a first renovation phase from 2025 to 2027. It aims to improve insulation, visitor reception, storage and the visit route, with a renewed scenography that puts people more at the centre.

The museum has been closed to the public since 3 November 2025, for 18 months of works. Before closing, it displayed model boats, fishing techniques from around the world, aquariums and the history of the port of Concarneau. During the works, the education department offers activities outside the museum, together with the Friends of the Museum association.
