About the museum
The museum was founded in 1993 by the Association pour la Sauvegarde des Métiers du Bois. It is the work of a passionate cabinetmaker and joiner, a Compagnon du Devoir et du Tour de France, who wanted to pass on his skills and experience.
The collection brings together about 110 front doors from the 17th to the 20th century, displayed in several small rooms. The route explains their technical construction in a clear way, covering the wood species, assembly and joinery, as well as their decoration: colours, mouldings and sculptures.
The museum also shows different types of windows and shutters, wrought iron, door knockers, locks and old tools, rescued from oblivion and destruction. It is aimed at the general public as well as at professionals such as joiners, metalworkers or architects looking for models to restore old buildings.
