About the museum
The Morvan Resistance Museum was conceived by historians from the University of Burgundy and former Resistance fighters. It was inaugurated on June 26, 1983 by François Mitterrand. For its fortieth anniversary in 2023, it was completely renovated and given a new scenography.
It is run by the association Morvan terre de Résistances (ARORM) and housed by the Morvan Regional Nature Park in the Maison du Parc in Saint-Brisson. The Morvan, a small rural mountain range, served as a refuge for people fleeing persecution, and many maquis developed there. The museum explains the role of these maquis in the regional Resistance.
The visit follows three themes. The first room covers the German occupation and its consequences. The second is devoted to the Resistance and the maquis, with a projection showing daily life among the maquisards. The last deals with the Liberation of the Morvan in September 1944 and with the memory of the Resistance. Documents, archives, photographs and military equipment illustrate the route, and a touch table presents the memorial sites of the Morvan's “Chemins de mémoire”.
