About the museum

The Musée de la vannerie de Cadenet opened in July 1988 on the site of the former La Glaneuse basketry works. Much of its collection comes from donations by residents of Cadenet, who helped to create it. It is now a departmental museum attached to the Vaucluse Department.

The route presents more than 1,000 woven objects from here and elsewhere: baskets, hats, furniture and decorations. It also shows workshop tools, such as billhooks, pruning shears and molds, as well as raw materials from around the world: willow, rattan, bamboo, chestnut and plastic. Audio and video recordings of former Provençal basket makers complement the visit.

The museum highlights the importance of basketry in local life: in 1906, Cadenet had 206 basket makers for about 2,000 inhabitants. Workshops are offered, and visitors can take their creation home.
