About the museum
The museum was founded in 1970 on the joint initiative of an association and the commune. It is housed in the Hôtel des Bouliers, a 17th-century mansion on the rue de l'Église. It pays tribute to Marc Deydier, who was at once notary, photographer, archaeologist, historian and Occitan poet, and part of whose collections form the museum's holdings.
The archaeology section presents remains from prehistory, the Bronze Age and the Gallo-Roman period, including a graffito of a Roman merchant ship from the Vièly villa (1st–2nd century) and objects from the Gallo-Roman mausoleum (1st–4th century). The ethnography section, largely assembled by residents of Cucuron, evokes agricultural work, crafts, the republican school and public and private life in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum also holds Marc Deydier's glass plates and photographs of village life.
