About the museum
The Musée Marey in Beaune is devoted to Étienne-Jules Marey (Beaune, 1830 – Paris, 1904), a renowned physiologist, inventor of chronophotography and scientific cinema. Chronophotography makes it possible to analyse the course of a movement with the help of photography.
The museum presents Marey’s life and work, as well as 20th-century scientific and artistic works influenced by him. It holds the “Musée de France” label and is housed in the Beaune town hall (hôtel de ville).
According to the association of museums of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, the museum is temporarily closed to the public. The City of Beaune does not list it among its open museums, and Marey’s memory is kept alive by a monument on the Place Marey.
