About the museum
The Musée Würth France Erstein opened in January 2008 in the Zone industrielle Ouest of Erstein, next to the headquarters of Würth France. Its purpose is to make the Würth Collection known in France; it is one of the most important corporate collections of modern and contemporary art in Europe.
The building was designed by the Lyon architects Jacques and Clément Vergély. Its opaque walls of raw concrete contrast with the transparency of the neighbouring glass headquarters. It houses three rooms: a monumental nave on the ground floor and two spaces upstairs, providing 800 m² of exhibition space, with lighting that favours natural daylight.
The museum is surrounded by a 5-hectare park laid out by Martine Rascle. Works are displayed outdoors there, notably the triptych “220° Arc x 5” by Bernar Venet in front of the entrance. The museum's activities are projects of Würth France S.A.; it offers exhibitions drawn from the collection, concerts, workshops and a café.
