About the museum
L’Atelier de l’Orgue is a heritage interpretation centre devoted to the organ. Opened in 2017, it occupies a former building of the abbey church of Marmoutier and extends over several floors.
Its centrepiece is Organum XXI, a modern, deconstructed organ that the site presents as unique in the world. A guided tour allows visitors to step inside the instrument to discover the bellows, the pipes, the stops and the pedalboard; the pipes light up during a music and light show.
On the ground floor, a wall of 208 flutes from around the world, from the collection of Charles Tripp, invites visitors to admire them and to play them. The second floor offers playful modules on the history and workings of the organ, as well as the organ-building workshop; the third floor houses an immersive room, and the fourth floor an annual temporary exhibition. Concerts, detective games, musical tales and creative workshops are offered all year round.
