About the museum
The museum opened in 1996 in the basement of the Burgheim town hall on Marktplatz. The town hall itself goes back to a building of 1750, was rebuilt from 1855 onwards and has retained its outward appearance to this day. The local history museum with an archaeological focus is looked after primarily by the Heimatgeschichtlicher Verein Burgheim (local history society).
On display are Neolithic settlement finds from the extensive loess plains south of the village, finds from the Roman vicus of the middle imperial period and from late Roman Burgheim, the Roman Parrodunum, as well as evidence of settlement in the early Middle Ages. The collection thus leads through several millennia of the settlement history of the place.
Remains of the late Roman fort are visible on the Burgberg on the approach to the church and are easy to reach from the museum. There are no fixed opening hours; visits are possible by arrangement with the Heimatgeschichtlicher Verein.
Located in the town hall, the museum lies in the middle of the village. The exhibits come mainly from the immediate surroundings and illustrate the long settlement of the loess region south of Burgheim.
