About the museum
The municipal museum displays painted farm furniture and household items from the Bavarian Forest. It was set up in the late 1970s in two farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, the Oitzinger-Haus and the adjoining Inhäusl, and is located at the western entrance of the Grafenau Kurpark.
The focus is on cupboards, chests, and other furniture, some plain and some richly painted, with an emphasis on the 19th century. Reverse-glass paintings, wax tapers, glassware, household equipment, and a weaving room show rural domestic culture. The carriage shed and grain chest house farm implements and tools.
The parlor on the first floor of one of the houses also serves as the civil registry's wedding room.
