About the museum

The Bauländer Heimatmuseum presents the historical and folk-life collection of the town of Adelsheim. It occupies the former tithe barn of the Imperial Barons (Reichsfreiherren) of Adelsheim, built in 1758, which stands in the middle of the old town behind the Protestant town church. The building was renovated and restored in 1986.

The exhibition shows how people in the Bauland region worked and lived. In the former stable area are farm implements related to the production of Grünkern (green spelt), craft tools and products, house doors from around 1800, a general store from around 1920, Bauland pottery and cast-iron stove plates, some of which date back to the 16th century.

In the former grain store, rural and urban household goods are on view, including dowry chests with clothing and linen, a painted wedding cupboard from 1795, Biedermeier furniture, love letters from around 1840 and a living room furnished around 1900. The attic floor is devoted to the history of the town and of the Imperial Barons of Adelsheim, with old views, pictures and prints. Occasional special exhibitions supplement the house.
