About the museum
For almost 150 years the Böttcher family's wooden goods factory shaped Pobershau, today part of Marienberg. From 1872 production took place in the historic family main building. A later factory annex, where production ended in the 1990s, belongs to the city of Marienberg and has since served as an exhibition building and cultural center, which an art association brings to life.
On view is the legacy of the Erzgebirge painters Max Christoph and Martin Tille, as well as works by the woodcarver Gottfried Reichel. Max Christoph's paintings show rural life in the postwar period; the Meinel collection comprises around 80 landscape paintings on long-term loan.
The technical side is represented by the Maschinenfabrik Wittig with a fully functional machinery park, including a line-shaft drive, and the "Tenne", an old drying shed with curious finds, from a sack-beating machine to a wave-bath swing. The Marienberg model railway club also has its base on the grounds.
