About the museum
The Bruder-Konrad-Museum was created during the new construction and renovation work at the St. Konrad monastery from 2006 to 2008, in the form of meeting rooms dedicated to Saint Brother Konrad. It does not see itself as a classic museum; instead, it offers insight into the everyday life of the porter brother and keeps alive the memory of his work.
The Bruder-Konrad wing shows the Alte Pforte (Old Gatehouse) and several meeting rooms on the basement level. On the second floor is the death cell, where Konrad spent his last three days and where the only photograph of him was taken on his deathbed. The Pope wing runs along the monastery church to a meditation oasis. It is named after Pope John Paul II, who stayed here in 1980 during his visit to Altötting, while Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger stayed in the room next door.
Adjoining the Pope wing are the entrance to the Capuchin crypt, where Brother Konrad was buried in 1894, and the treasury. Its centerpieces are a wax figure of the saint and his original Capuchin habit. In 1912 Konrad was interred in the monastery church.
