About the museum

The Stadtmuseum Neuötting reopened in 1996 and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2026. It lies at the western end of Stadtplatz and presents a cross-section of the town's history from the Middle Ages to modern times. It is run by the town of Neuötting.

On the first floor, the exhibits cover the founding of the town, municipal administration and town boundaries, the civic militia and territorial defense, trade, crafts and minting, as well as Inn river shipping and the brief episode of the local railway. The upper floors are devoted to urban life around Stadtplatz, the building style of the Inn towns, water, and the 1797 town fire, which is staged with an original 18th-century fire pump.

On the top floor, the social welfare system of Neuötting is presented; the Renaissance roof truss itself is considered the largest exhibit. The didactic concept does not follow a fixed route: visitors explore individual theme areas on their own, supported by short text panels.
