About the museum
The Dorfmuseum Friedrichsaue is located in the district of Friedrichsaue in the municipality of Zechin in the Oderbruch. It is housed in the village's former cultural center, which was built during the GDR era. The idea for a museum came up in 1998 to mark the 275th anniversary of the village, which began as a royal outlying farm and later became a state domain. The collector Helmut Hulitschke, who has lived in the village since 1947, contributed his collection of about 2,000 items and runs the museum.
The exhibition uses farm equipment and household objects to show how people in the Oderbruch lived and worked for almost three centuries. Topics include the sugar factory, the Oderbruch railway, land reclamation, the blacksmith and wheelwright trades, the reconstruction after the destruction of 1945, land reform, and farming in the GDR until the Wende. Also on display are equipment for potato and beet cultivation, field implements, shoemaker's tools and old kitchen utensils.
Since 2020, the house has been one of the Oderbruch heritage sites designated by the Oderbruch Museum Altranft. The village is also known for the East Brandenburg Bulldog Meeting.
