About the museum
The Heimatstube Rathstock (local history room) is set up in the rooms of the former village school and is now part of the Rathstock community center in Alt Tucheband. It was established by the local history association "Oberes Oderbruch" Rathstock, which built up a comprehensive exhibition on the village's history. It opened on June 4, 2004, as part of the celebrations for Rathstock's 650th anniversary.
The display is devoted to the Land Lebus and to the origins and development of the village, once called "Rotstok". It also covers the Rathstock estates and the village's best-known resident, the colonial politician and African explorer Dr. Georg Hartmann (1865–1946), who worked as a researcher for societies in Southwest Africa and in Ovamboland. Changing themed exhibitions also take place.
The local history room lies directly beside the former "Schmelzer" manor house. The same building also houses rooms for senior citizens' meetings and youth work, the Klangzimmer Alt Tucheband (sound room) and a fire brigade exhibition, so a visit can easily be combined with other offerings in the village.
