About the museum
The Pfiesterhaus on Hauptstraße in Rohrbach is a restored half-timbered building whose sandstone arch above the cellar entrance bears the year 1575. According to research by a local historian, the house changed owners several times over the centuries; among others, a Reformed pastor acquired it in 1650.
Today a friends' association looks after the municipality's village history collection in the building. On display are a "gute Stube" (best parlor), a bedroom, a kitchen and an old schoolroom, as well as a complete shoemaker's workshop and a forge. Other areas show products of the stoneware production based in the village in the 19th century, equipment from farming and crafts, and, in a coin room, the history of money.
The museum is a place where children can learn about village life in earlier times; school classes from the area mainly visit the schoolroom.
