About the museum
The Viehstrichmuseum in the Schaidt district of Wörth am Rhein is located on the second floor of a former school and town hall building from the 18th century. The building has served in turn as village court, the inn “Zum Ritter St. Georg”, schoolhouse and town hall. Today it is a community center, meeting place for clubs and youth groups, and a museum.
The museum is run by the Förderverein für Heimatmuseum und Brauchtum e.V. (Heimatverein Schaidt). The collection offers insight into about 400 years of village history. On display are workshops of blacksmith, carpenter, shoemaker, weaver, wheelwright, cooper and basket maker, forestry, a living room around 1900 with a bedroom, and farm equipment.
Documents include a village court register from 1582, tavern account books, poor relief records and Sunday school certificates. A recreated 1950s elementary school classroom, historical daily newspapers, photo albums, and maps and plans complement the exhibition. A picture collection of around 600 photos is also available to browse at the seating areas.
