About the museum
Museum Wald und Umwelt is located on the Ludwigshöhe at the edge of the Ebersberg forest and is run by the town of Ebersberg. It combines a museum with a recognized environmental station that offers programs for school classes, families and adults.
Part of the ensemble is the historic Jagerhäusl, a farmhouse from 1740 that was moved here from a neighboring municipality. In December 2019 a fire damaged the roofs of the old and new building sections; the exhibits were secured in time.
The permanent exhibition was completely redesigned and reopened on October 12, 2025. It covers climate change, species extinction and the changing use of forests, with many interactive stations. A highlight is the wooden library of the Benedictine monk Candid Huber (1747–1813), who made caskets in the form of books for individual tree species. Outdoors, an open-air area, a nature experience and listening trail, and paths into the forest invite further exploration.
