About the museum
In the station at Hofheim, former station master Emil Lehmann and his wife set up a private museum in 1976. It documents in great detail the history and technology of the Haßfurt–Hofheim local railway. Since the line was closed, the station has become a museum station; the entry signals are permanently set to stop.
In the former waiting room are railway souvenirs from around the world, and in the operations room hangs a collection of more than 70 service caps from many countries. In the freight shed, switch levers, coupling rods and an electronic ticket printer from the 1960s show how railway operations once worked. In the outdoor area stand a small locomotive and a draisine (rail trolley), and a signal alley invites visitors on a walk.
The Lehmann family still looks after the museum. The outdoor grounds are accessible at all times; the interior rooms can be viewed after registration.
